Gerina has always been an avid sportsperson. Gerina first began to golf when she was 15 years of age. Gerina attended Goddard High School for her high school education. At the age of 16, she was a winner in the state championship golf tournament in New Mexico. She was also a volleyball player and competed on the level of state. The year 2003 was the year she began her studies at the University of Texas. She was the only winner of all events she took part in throughout her senior year.
